Altace (Ramipril)
Monday, February 11th, 2008Altace is used for:
Treating high blood pressure and decreasing the risk of heart attack, stroke, and death in certain patients. It may also be used to treat congestive heart disease following a heart attack or for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Altace is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It works by causing blood vessels to relax so that blood flows more freely and at a lower pressure. It also increases the heart’s ability to pump blood in some types of heart failure.
Do NOT use Altace if:
- you are allergic to any ingredient in Altace or similar medicines (ACE inhibitors), or if you have a history of angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat) caused by an ACE inhibitor
- you are in your second or third trimester of pregnancy
- you have a history of kidney artery narrowing
Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.
